Highfields in Bloom
Although winter is almost upon us we’d like to tell you about a Garden competion which was held on Highfields at the end of summer.
Fantastic, brilliant, marvellous, and out of this world were the words of amazement that came from the judges as they surveyed gardens entered in the HERaTAGE Best Garden Competition.
The competition was well supported by tenants and residents who had worked hard in their gardens to reach the high standards that took the judges completely by surprise. Nobody realised that these superb gardens existed and are a credit to the residents of Highfields. The classes included Best Garden, Best before and After Garden, Best Sunflower grown by children and the Best School Garden.
Judging the competition were Debbie Emmitt, Director of Neighbourhood Services, for Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) Steve Higginbottom, a Director of Greenfingers and Joe Hawkins the Head Gardener at Shugborough Hall who all passed on useful hints and tips to the competitors. The Certificates and Prize Vouchers were presented at a special Presentation Evening held at the Highfields Social Club.

The Committee of HERaTAGE are already considering a similar competition for next year. Suggestions and ideas for next year would be appreciated and can be sent to the HERaTAGE Projects Officer at either SARH, The Signpost Centre, Auden Way, Highfields, or by e-mail to heratage@hotmail.co.uk
