Stafford and Rural Homes Delivers on £100,000 Promise

January 4, 2007

The promise of funding for improvement schemes submitted by its tenant and resident groups was realised when £100,000 was committed by Stafford and Rural Homes for works on bids judged by a panel of officers and representatives from the Tenant and Resident Federation.

Groups were invited to compete for the cash by submitting bids for work which would have wide social and environmental benefits for their communities and which would compliment the Association’s £60M improvement programme.

Following the announcing of the successful bids at a meeting of representatives from the groups involved, Karen Armitage, Chief Executive of Stafford and Rural Homes, said “I am delighted at the response by our residents to this scheme, which has made an unprecedented level of funding available for work that local people want for their local areas. It’s part of our company vision to listen to and empower local communities by working in partnership to make our estates and rural areas attractive and safe to live in. This is a great example of our desire to help meet the needs of our residents in a very inclusive way.”

The schemes approved include:

  • Improvements to parking facilities at Cotes Heath
  • Fencing to properties in the North End
  • Repairs to fencing and gates in Sidney Avenue Community Room
  • Off street parking in Exeter Street (subject to planning approval)
  • Re-surfacing of car parking and landscaping at Oak Road, Stone
  • Demolition of garage site and landscaping on the Priory Estate, Stone
  • Perimeter fencing, pathways landscaping around Maple Grove flats, Rising Brook
  • Security fencing to the rear of flats at Swinburne Close and Turney Grove, Highfields
  • Refurbishment of community rooms at three Sheltered schemes
  • New fencing and gates to Marsh/Hopton Court Sheltered Housing Scheme, subject to design approval by tenants.

Further details of all winning bids and photographs of the areas to be improved are available on the Tenant's Initiative page.

Most of the works will be completed by April 2007, subject to planning approvals and consultation with residents.
