Residents at Doxey House sheltered housing scheme in Doxey, Stafford, are the latest Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) customers to be celebrating the start of improvement works to their homes.
Workers from Connaught Partnerships arrived on site this week to a warm welcome as they began the scheme’s £500,000 improvement programme.
Over the next 36 weeks, they will be installing new walk-in showers for residents who have requested them and fitting new front entrance doors to each flat. The scheme will also benefit from improved lighting as well as new carpets and décor in the communal areas.
Subject to planning approval from Stafford Borough Council, SARH are also hoping to make further improvements including the provision of a scooter store and office and improving access and parking.
The improvements are part of a broader £8 million three year investment programme being delivered by Stafford and Rural Homes to its 18 sheltered housing schemes in the borough.
Karen Armitage, SARH’s Chief Executive, said: “We are pleased to be delivering on the commitments we made to our customers when these dwellings transferred to SARH along with around 5,000 other former council homes in 2006.
“I am pleased to say that, with the help of our partners at Connaught, we are on target to have delivered our sheltered housing improvement programme by the end of 2009.”
Steve Haywood, Partnership Manager for Connaught Partnerships commented: “The Connaught team was delighted by the welcome we received from tenants of Doxey House as we started work there this week. Our team are looking forward to making improvements to the scheme which provide many benefits to all tenants.”
