Stafford and Rural Homes Connaught help Macmillan Cancer funds

December 20, 2006

Stafford & Rural Homes (S&RH) and partner Connaught, the UK’S leading provider of integrated asset management services to social housing providers,  have raised over £1,250 for Macmillan Cancer Research. The money was raised by a Christmas raffle and two generous cash gifts from Connaught’s local supply partners, Premiere Kitchens and Shield Environmental. The donation has met Macmillans regional fund target and ensures they can continue to provide their valuable services to the people of Stafford.

The raffle was drawn by Karen Armitage, Chief Executive of Stafford & Rural Homes at Shakespeare Road Sheltered Scheme on 18 December 2006.  Residents of Shakespeare Road and employees from both Connaught and S&RH attended the draw.

Stafford and Rural Homes, in partnership with Connaught, embarked on a sweeping £60m modernisation programme in May to improve housing stock within the towns and rural areas of the borough. As part of the programme Shakespeare Road sheltered housing residents have benefited from improved access, lifts, garden landscaping and safety improvements to their homes.

Shakespeare Roads residents, like many in Stafford, benefit from the services Macmillan Research provide and this motivated Connaught and S&RH’s fundraising efforts.

Keith Bailey, Chairman for Stafford borough Macmillan fundraising committee said: “Penkridge sufferers face having to travel to Stoke general hospital up to four times a week. This round trip of over 50 miles is not only exhausting but expensive. Our volunteer car scheme is just one of the ways Macmillian supports those in Stafford living with the pain of cancer, so every penny donated counts.”

Geoff Thomas, Area Director at Connaught said:  ‘’We are delighted to support such a valuable service (Macmillan) and in turn the local communities in which Connaught work’’
