Your Responsibilities as a tenant

Your Tenancy Agreement includes our responsibilities as your landlord and yours as a tenant. 

If you were previously a tenant of Stafford Borough Council, you should have signed and returned your tenancy Agreement.   Please help us to help you by signing the agreement and returning both copies to us as quickly as you can.  Click to see a sample copy of the Tenancy Agreement for transferring tenants.

Here are a few key areas of reponsibility:

Flats and Communal Areas
If you are living in a flat that has common parts shared with your neighbours (stairwells, footpaths etc), there are several important things to remember about your tenancy:

  • Please keep all such areas clear of obstructions or rubbish that could cause a fire hazard or stop people exiting safely in the case of fire
  • Please help to keep the common areas in a clean and tidy condition
  • For your security, make sure that the external doors to your home are kept closed
  • Please behave in a manner that gives consideration to other occupants.  Remember that noise can carry easily in flats

Parking
Parking issues can be the cause of many problems between neighbours.  Parking may be possible:

  • Off road within your premises (dropped kerb and hardstanding)
  • On road (complying with any restrictions)
  • In car parking areas provided by us for use with our properties

It is understood that you may like to park right outside your home, but this would only be possible by designating specific parking spaces for each property.

Over the next five years, Stafford and Rural Homes will be looking to provide an estimated 2,000 tarmacked hard standings on evidence of need and taking into account health or disability requirements, as part of the Estate Based Strategy improvement programme.  We will also be consulting you about the possible provision of off-road parking bays close to your home, where there is the space to do so.
