What are the Sheltered Homes like?
We currently have over 900 sheltered homes in 19 schemes throughout the Borough. Click If you would like to see photographs and details of each scheme .
Here we have tried to answer some of the more frequestly asked questions from customers:
Is the Accommodation Furnished?
All accommodation is unfurnished. Tenants are responsible for providing all furniture, floor coverings, cooking appliances, window dressings and other household items. 
What are the facilities in the schemes?
Most Sheltered Housing Schemes have a variety of facilities including;
- Door entry systems
- Communal rooms
- Laundry facilities
- Hair salons
- Guest flats
Most schemes also benefit from a concessionary TV licence. This is a licence issued for the scheme and usually included in the Service Charge paid by tenants.
Do people socialise in the schemes?
There is a great atmosphere in the schemes with many holding regular activities in the communal lounges such as bingo, coffee mornings and exercise classes. A number of schemes have formed tenant groups and also organise day trips and holidays.
