£1million kitchen investment gives Stafford resident an early Christmas present
A STAFFORD resident has received the perfect early Christmas present with a new kitchen as part of a £1million investment by Stafford and Rural Homes.
Annie Mellor, 60, from Cambridge Street, in Coton Fields, is one of the latest customers to receive a new kitchen through SARH’s subsidiary trading company Housing Worx which has so far fitted 242 kitchens across Stafford borough in 2013.
“I have multiple sclerosis which affects my balance and the old floor in my kitchen had become uneven which is why I asked Stafford and Rural Homes’ to come and see what they could do to help me,” said Annie.
“From the first contact I had with the Housing Worx team, I was treated with respect and their knowledge was excellent. The kitchen was completed on time despite a few extra bits of work being required due to the age of the property and the workmen were polite, tidy and courteous. The end result is wonderful and I’m delighted to have a new kitchen before Christmas.”
The work included fitting a new floor, work surfaces and cupboards to maximise the space in the kitchen.
“I am pleased the outcome was what Annie wanted and that she was so happy with how we carried out the work as we pride ourselves on the high standard of service from our staff and the courtesy and consideration they give to customers,” said Stephen Garland, Head of Property Maintenance.
Previously this type of work to SARH homes was carried out by external contractors but in October 2012 SARH set up Housing Worx, creating a dedicated team to deliver replacement kitchens, bathrooms and doors to SARH properties.
The move has helped SARH to save money on its maintenance contracts which is being invested back into affordable housing in Stafford Borough. Housing Worx has also taken on young people from the local area on a number employment and training opportunities.
“Housing Worx offers customers quality of workmanship, delivery and follow-up service. In addition, the cost savings we are able to make are being invested in our core business of providing affordable housing and improving communities,” said Chris Poulton, Director of Asset Management and Development for SARH.
