As Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) prepares to mark its 10th birthday, one customer is celebrating a decade living in one of our popular Independent Living schemes in Stafford.
June moved into the one bedroom SARH apartment with her late husband when the couple decided they needed additional security after living for a number of years in a mobile home in Baswich.
“My husband, Kenneth, was twelve years older than me and it was really his idea to apply for an apartment so we could enjoy a little more peace of mind as we grew older,” June explained.
“It was a real wrench at first. Living in Baswich was like being on holiday all the time, but we soon settled in and now I’m on my own the apartment is ideal. I’ve no doubts that moving was the right thing to do.”
June, now 71, has lived most of her life in the Stafford area, working in the domestic sector after a spell in the RAF. She believes one of the biggest benefits of the Independent Living scheme is knowing support is on hand if needed, without sacrificing the privacy of having her own front door.
June’s horticultural skills have previously been recognised in the popular SARH Garden Competition, which is run every year, and her zest for for life is typical of many Independent Living customers.
“Independent Living really does suit my lifestyle,” said June.
“Moving here was one of the best things I’ve done. There’s a shop just around the corner and a bus stop at the end of the road so it’s really easy to get out and about to enjoy life to the full.”
