Celebrations at Jubilee Court mark Older Persons Day

A Stafford-based housing association has staged a special get together for its older customers as part on an international celebration of age and experience.

As part of the worldwide Older People’s Day, Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) organised a series of activities at Jubilee Court where customers took part in a sing-song and staff dressed as 1970s superstars ABBA.

Organised by the housing association’s Independent Living team, the event also included a quiz, raffle and 70s themed buffet and was open to all SARH customers who live in the organisation’s supported accommodation.

Paul Curran, Independent Living Manager at SARH explained: “We help around 870 customers to maintain a high degree of independence through the support we offer in a range of housing schemes across Stafford and surrounding areas.”

“Many of them decided to join us for this special event at Jubilee Court where we work with care provider Radis to deliver extra help to around 40 customers with additional needs.”

“We aim to help all our older customers to enjoy an independent and active life and this includes organising smaller-scale get togethers, trips and many other social activities.”

One of the highlights of the day was a performance by the Second Time Around Singers, who performed a series of First World War classics including Pack up Your Troubles and They Were Only Playing Leapfrog.

SARH Chief Executive Karen Armitage, who also joined in the fun, commented: “The singers included one of our own customers and their performance was fantastic. They managed to get everyone singing along and tapping their toes during what was a very special day for all involved.”

“Older people make a fantastic contribution to the community and they certainly deserve a day of their own!”

Across Stafford and Stone, there are 19 different SARH Independent Living Schemes, including bungalows, apartments and care facilities such as Jubilee Court. They offer a range of benefits for older people including a dedicated co-ordinator, access to shared facilities and all properties are fitted with special equipment connected to the housing association’s 24 hour You First customer call team.

Anyone interested in learning more about these Independent Living Schemes, including the comfort and peace of mind they offer, is invited to one of the organisation’s open coffee mornings at Jubilee Court, Edison Road, Stafford. For details of the next coffee morning please call SARH free on 0800 111 4554.
