Good neighbours win special award
DELIGHTED neighbours have thanked a Silkmore couple for their efforts in the community by nominating them for an award.
John and Jean Wakefield won the Stafford and Rural Homes Good Neighbour award 2010 for doing a series of good turns over the past four years.
The couple, who live at Hall Close Independent Living Apartments, regularly arrange social events and trips, collect shopping and prescriptions for neighbours and welcome new customers to their apartments.
The award asks SARH customers to put forward neighbours that go the extra mile to improve the lives of others in the community.
“We were so shocked when it was announced we won the award. We don’t just have neighbours at Hall Close we have good friends and we are extremely grateful to everyone who nominated us,” said John.
The couple, who have lived at Hall Close for four years, were nominated for the award by five of their neighbours including Pat Tillett and Joan Ravenall.
“John and Jean are two wonderful people that would do absolutely anything for you. To have such caring neighbours is a real comfort and they are always there to lend a helping hand or have a chat if you need it.” said Joan Ravenall.
The award was presented by SARH chief executive Karen Armitage at the housing association’s recent AGM, held at SARH head office on Staffordshire Technology Park, on Thursday, September 16.
Karen Armitage said: “Our customers decide who is put forward for this important award and I’m delighted to present it to two extremely worthy winners.
“John and Jean are a shining example of the good will that every community needs to be a great place to live.”
