SARH holds a week of events to promote adult learning

Posted on 2nd May 2013

A WEEK of activities from Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) aims to prove it’s never too late to start learning.

SARH is running a range of events as part of Adult Learners Week (20th-24th May) aimed at inspiring adults and promoting learning.

“The week is all about giving adults the chance to have a go at a range of learning activities, whether it is to help them get into employment, develop skills they already have or to simply to try something new,” said Christine Cartwright, Community Involvement Officer for SARH.

Activities include a session to boost people’s IT skills and help them search for jobs online, on Monday, May 20, and a job skills course run in partnership with the National Careers Service, on Wednesday, May 22.

Both sessions will be run from 10am-12pm, at SARH’s Community Resource Centre, at Greyfriars.

SARH’s Community Learning Programme course ‘The Natural Way to look after Yourself’ will offer customers the chance to learn ways to relax the mind and body including massage treatments, meditation and use of essential oils, at Rising Brook Fire Station, from 1pm-4pm, on Thursday May 23.

SARH is also holding a presentation for nine customers who have successfully completed a 12-week accredited retail and customer services course through the Community Learning Programme.  This course was run in partnership with Staffordshire County Council’s Adult and Community Learning team.

The Organisational Development Team at SARH will be running a personal development course aimed at building people’s confidence and helping them back into work.

The week of events will culminate in SARH’s mobile office visiting Market Square in Stafford to offer information on Community Learning Programme opportunities and a range of money management, health and other useful advice.

Adult Learners’ Week is the UK’s largest annual festival of learning, helping to inspire thousands of people over 19-years-old each year to discover how learning can change their lives.
